Bohemian Muppet Mama

animalnormally i don’t go to musicals, but when our friends, kevin and victoria invited us to see their daughter, kimberly in A Year With Frog and Toad, i said “ok.” it was a good experience. i was immersed in a make believe world where a frog can bake delicious cookies for his toad friend. i even ate some of those cookies. part of that night is still with me, and it happened before the play even started. a song by the muppets played softly as we took our seats. jim henson and his gang were doing their twisted version of bohemian rhapsody, and when animal (pictured above) sang MAMA, i lost it.

If I Had A Real Camera…

3saras…these pictures wouldn’t be as spontaneous. as i promised last tuesday, here are some more pics from sara’s visit: the first frame is a shot from the downtown streetcar, the second was at mickey’s surplus, and the third was at old shawnee days after sara bought root beer in a glass flask.

Lamp Shade Molly

lampshademollyshe wears it well. most people look drunk in a lamp shade, but personally i think molly looks like a bemused gardener. she texted this photo to jenny friday night with the caption we know how to keep it weird. according to slate.com one of the earliest images of this type is in The Adventurer (1917), Charlie Chaplin plays a rich yachtsman who, pursued by the police, puts a lampshade over his head and stands still as the cops pass by. you’re in good company, molly.

The Weather Started Getting Rough

QlJNa-1524779011-614-quiz_question_image_-gilligan_or_skipper_7i moved my truck into the street so jenny could back out of the driveway this morning. the skies were darker than normal, and thunderstorms were in the forecast according to the national weather bureau. it was dry and calm, but i knew the conditions were getting ready to flip. 20 minutes later the wind chimes were chiming, the street gutter was a creek, the lights in our house went off and on, and i heard gilligan yelling “SKIP-PER!”

Still In Transition

PaperMoon3awe took sara back to joplin on sunday, but here it is wednesday, and i’m still missing her. when i was walking home from work yesterday, i thought about grabbing a bite at snack and shack, but i couldn’t do it because that’s where sara and i ate lunch last tuesday. i wondered if this is what ryan o’neal would have gone through if tatum o’neal hadn’t caught up to him at the end of paper moon.

There Is Nowhere We Won’t Go

rexwe had an awesome visit with our niece last week, and we really didn’t want it to end. eventually, however, we had to face it the same way sara stared down this t-rex at union station. i’ll post more photos, and share more stories in the next few days.

“Every Animal Needs Love…”

with rocky…that’s what sara told me when my cousin’s cat was rubbing his face all over her legs yesterday. warren asked me to feed his geckos, check on the cat, and bring the mail inside while he’s away. sara asked me “what’s the cat’s name?” i told her “that’s rocky.” he was purring. sara said “he’s so soft!” they hit it off right way and pledged their love for each other. i swear they almost exchanged phone numbers before i intervened.

Days Of Pirates, Custards, and Castles

coupla pirateswe’re really making the most of our week with sara. since saturday afternoon we’ve seen old shawnee days, tasted foo’s fabulous frozen custard, jammed on guitar and ukulele, explored a pirate cave, stormed a castle, and ransacked an army surplus store. before the week is over we’re gonna hop a streetcar, and ride it to an arcade.

Happy Birthday Dad

dadonguitarmy dad taught me how to play my first chords on the piano and the guitar. he showed me how to shift gears in a truck with a 3 speed on the tree. i could always count on dad to wake me up to watch the treasure of the sierra madre with him every time it was on tv. sometimes it wouldn’t air until 3am. happy birthday dad, i love you.

Tulsa Paradise

parrotheadsthe tide came in all the way to oklahoma this week when jimmy buffet played the BOK center in tulsa monday night. my sister and her family soaked up big screen tropical sights, danced to the beat of kettle drums, and partied with thousands of parrot heads on a portable beach.
