I Almost Missed The Future

martyanddocfour days ago it was october 21st, 2015. it was the day that marty mcfly and doc brown traveled into the future in back to the future II. local theaters were showing the back to the future trilogy that day, but i couldn’t get anyone to go with me. jenny made it clear that she wasn’t sitting in a theater for 5-6 hours. fortunately christy and josh have all three movies on DVD. we started watching the first one that night, and then later we watched the second one at home. that day has passed, and now we are going where doc and marty have not gone before.

Winter’s Beep @ Salon Kitch

surveying scenemy good friend kitch fairman runs his own salon a few blocks from our house. he keeps it open with artwork on display during old overland park’s third friday event known as local life. in november he’s going to let me set up fruits and vegetables that go BEEP. kitch cuts my hair, and sometimes i hang out there even when i don’t need a haircut. last week i surveyed the scene to see where i might set up beep goes the weasel.

Cat Jam

IMG_20151015_123219no live performances are scheduled this month for beep goes the weasel, so angie and i went over some new material at her apartment last week. even though things got kinda noisy, mika planted herself in the middle of it.  one of the songs we’re trying out is space worms by future folk. i asked matt hawkins if he would play his banjo with us on that one, and he said “yeah!”

Halloween Safety Circa 1977

bumkidhere’s a halloween saftey video that was made in 1977. the narrator says that kids should cut the eye holes bigger in their masks (or not wear masks at all), and wear costumes that won’t get them run over by a car. that year i dressed like a bum. a big thanks goes to the retroist for finding this video.

Happy Birthdays!

BDpeepslast weekend jenny & i drove down to joplin to celebrate october birthdays with steve, mom, jane, and marylynn. this pic was taken at the japanese steak house just north of the mall. later we teed off at the driving range.

Beeping @ The Plaza Art Fair

zoeyemmameCROPPEDa couple of weeks ago farmer steve asked if i would be interested in bringing beep goes the weasel to the plaza art fair. i said “sure!” and set up the produce, theremin, and other oddities in an alley next to eden alley (located inside unity temple). zoey and emma (above) played the theremin along with me and the volca beats… which is basically a fancy drum machine.

More Mortified

Jessica-Wassil-NEW-1i am addicted to the mortified podcast. a new one goes up every monday– except for two weeks ago when they took a day off. here’s a portion of the podcast i heard this morning featuring jessica wassil. it was uploaded yesterday. as posted on the RSS feed: “The Mortified Podcast is a storytelling series where adults share the embarrassing things they created as kids– diaries, letters, lyrics & beyond– in front of total strangers.”

The Eight O’ Clock Days

grittyhere in the midwest an overcast day can ignore the numbers on a clock, and basically render them useless. if it’s 8:00 and you can’t see the sun, a.m. and p.m. don’t exist. morning, noon, and dusk are words that matter when you can see the sun, they don’t mean a thing when it’s overcast for 12 hours. conditions were like this yesterday and today.
