Resurrected DEATH on Vinyl

band called death40+ years ago there was a band called death. they were 3 brothers from detroit who were playing punk before the sex pistols or the ramones. a few months ago i saw a documentary about the band on netflix. they never achieved commercial success, and remained virtually unknown until the film was made in 2012. my friend angie bought her first vinyl record for $17, and it was the only album these three brothers ever recorded.

Rocket Grants II

rocketgrant_2014you can now see all of the projects that were awarded rocket grants funding on the rocket blog. it was humbling and encouraging to see the other projects. click here to see our project, or just keep scrolling on this link. we’re at the very bottom of the list.

While The Iron’s Hot

logoi came across a grant opportunity from an another arts organization a few days ago. the deadline is coming up soon (may 25). i hope they like film noir and images from the outer limits.

Rocket Grants

mask sketchjulia cole sent me this email late monday night: “on behalf of the charlotte street foundation and the spencer museum of art, i am delighted to inform you that your proposal was selected to receive a rocket grants full project award for 2014-2015.” what this means is: beep goes the weasel* is coming to a drive-in theater near you (if you live in kansas city).
*support for this work is provided by a rocket grants project award, a program of the charlotte street foundation and the university of kansas spencer museum of art. funding is provided by the andy warhol foundation for the visual arts.

Castle Northmoor

jenny and castlejenny & i went geocaching this afternoon and discovered castle northmoor near riverside. harlan shaver built it around 1981. he was 70 years old at the time. there is a spiral staircase around back that goes all the way to the top where there are cannon turrets and a treasure chest.

Chuck vs. Pop Culture References

chuck and morganlast night jenny & i watched chuck on netflix. it’s an action/comedy series about a computer technician who reluctantly turns into a spy. the episode chuck vs. the anniversary has some great pop culture references: harry dean stanton reprises his role as a repo man, dolph lundgren whispers “i must break you” into someone’s ear, and chuck applies for a job at vandalay industries.

And The Beep Goes On

ian lydia maxit was a decent turnout @ the pop up gallery last night for mondo beep. we met some new folks, and saw some familiar faces. at one point lydia stepped away from her keyboard, and jammed with ian and max. ian was playing bananas because i forgot to bring carrots. fortunately there was a quiktrip nearby with cheap fruit. bystanders asked me if the electric current was the reason the bananas were getting dark spots, and i said “no they’re just bruised.”

Return to the Pop Up Gallery

pop up gallerymondo beep was at the pop up gallery last month for first friday. we met ALOT of people who stopped to play carrots and take fliers. we’ll be there again tomorrow night @ 6pm making noise as usual, but also playing songs from our beep goes the weasel project. if you don’t see us right away just follow the sounds of aliens with a cold, or robots having a root canal.
