Happy Birthday Dad!

just called my dad to wish him a happy birthday. in the past i would get the date confused with father’s day since both numbers are teens and in the same month. if two things are too close together in my head, the inevitable mix up results in my condolences at a wedding or congratulations at a funeral. anyway, today IS celebratory the last time i checked… so… i hope you get to do something fun today, dad… without any condolences from me.

Yes, I dad do something fun. I went swimming at Wet n’Wild water park and talked to you while I was on the way with a bunch of kids in the back of the pickup with Abby, who went with me too. I did a pretty good job with the backstroke. I think the kids are about to beat me at swimming, so I hope I can hold up a little longer. I remember I didn’t do such a good job when Darla was at Ft. Coob Lake, but an old indian helped us out, and I gave hime all the watermelons I had. I’m still growing tomatoes, green beans, squash and cucumbers. I hope I don’t have to reward anybody with melones (cantaloupes) or sandias (watermelons), because they don’t grow too good in El Paso, although I trying my luck again at pumpkins. Anyway, thanks for the memories, son, but remember; mine’s the 10th,and your’s is the (seven)teenth. Love always, Dad.

  2. thanks for commenting dad! glad to hear you had a wet n’ wild time today. i do remember that incident at ft. cobb lake. i didn’t know you gave that guy a bunch of vegetables and fruit though. chris and i practiced for our gig tomorrow night at homer’s. we’re gonna use a borrowed keyboard that has drum and bass patterns on it and play ‘blue bayou’ and maybe ‘under the boardwalk.’ wish you could be there.

  3. Have you ever heard this? It’s a message from Ben Folds’s dad to Ben Folds. His dad just woke up from sleeping…

  4. NO! i’ve never heard that before, but it’s crazy cool! if the guy didn’t have a southern drawl and his speech patterns drifted between english and spanish then he could be MY dad.
