C’mon Baby Light My Fire

this is the second saturday morning i wasn’t scheduled to teach a CPR class since july. it was a little cold inside the house when we woke up so i hooked up a ventless heater that mom and jim got us for emergencies (it runs on gas, no electricity is required). it’s the first time i hooked it up since we tested it last year. when the house didn’t blow up i knew everything was gonna be ok.

Danny on the Monotron

yesterday i let danny williams play the korg monotron through my acoustic amp. he took the ‘weird but cool’ factor to another level. thanks man. i love the fact that one person can sound like four. here is a minute and a half from yesterday’s freak out session.

The Doctor Is In

if you twist enough knobs on the korg monotron you start to hear something familiar. when i made this sound, it reminded me of every doctor who episode i’ve seen… which is not as many as you’d think

Goodbye Normal, Hello Korg

the mailman walked into homer’s with the korg monotron palm synth last friday, and i’ve been noodling with it every chance i get. the coolest sounds i’ve made on it so far are the same ones done by steve miller and paul mccartney. with any luck there will be more songs written about aliens, arcades, and insomnia before the batteries go dead on this thing.

Patiently Waiting… Awkwardly Playing

as i wait for the korg monotron palm synth to arrive by mail… the anticipation led me to go ahead and record a napoleon dynamite-ish thingy on the casio that i’m borrowing from tom firestone. after a visit w/josh and christy a couple of nights ago, i got an idea for a video. specific details are available upon request.

The Old Neighborhood

BALDWIN PARK, CA: this is where we lived when i was 5 years old and a neighbor’s toddler stole my hoppity-hop.

CHINO, CA: our last home in california. we had tomato plants in the backyard, and a witchdoctor next door.

PHILADELPHIA STREET: i walked home from school past these graffiti covered privacy walls. i knew every four letter word before i was 7 years old.

a BIG thanks to ian mull for showing me how to copy street view pics from google maps… it always makes me feel simultaneously happy and stupid when someone shows me something i should have figured out myself.

If It Aint Broke… Bend It

had a little time on my hands this morning to record my latest circuit bending project: the vtech little smart words plus. i picked it up at majr thrift yesterday for $2. it appears promising.

Coolest Sneak Preview… EVER!

The Makers of Noise Unite

danny williams came over to the house yesterday to add another track to the day of mars project. the last time we recorded music on a tuesday it was mid-june. this time he brought a big muff effects pedal for guitar distortion. i pushed a big red button on an optical theremin. our goal was to make noise. here’s a sample of our accomplishment.

Lazy Sunday

it’s a lazy sunday, and i’m glad. had a hectic week of working at the coffeehouse, teaching CPR, and planning the music at OPLC. i’m glad to have the work, but it’s good to do nothing for a few hours. also picked up a new cell phone after the old one stopped charging. now i have a micro SD card & i can make my own ringtones.  thinking about cool crest tonight and playing miniature golf, riding go karts, and seeing what’s in their arcade. but right now, i’m just relaxing.
