It’s an honor. The same year this blog appeared, the seeds were sown for an annual observance that would become World Radio Day. That was 15 years ago. I just heard about it on The Mixtape while I was driving to work this morning. I knew that R.E.M. had a song called ‘Radio Free Europe,’ but I’d NEVER heard ‘That’s Why God Made The Radio’ by the Beach Boys until today. So to reiterate – Happy 15 years of World Radio Day today & Happy 15 years of davidcedillo.com this month!

One of the warmer days this week at work I was walking up the hill toward 39th Street after parking in the employee lot.  When it’s cold I usually go indoors as soon as I can, but if it’s above freezing, I walk up Rainbow Boulevard.  The wind was at my back, and I was in my own little world with my headphones on.  I slowed down when I saw a folded note lying on the sidewalk.  I stopped and picked it up.  It said “Bodey” with a heart drawn next to the name.  On the inside it read:
I know things are tough right now
but we’ll get through it together.
I love you and I want nothing more
than for us to be happy.
I hope you have a good day honey.
I love you. Forever.
I put it in my pocket. It felt like a warm ray of sunshine.

The sixth episode of Audio Flare Gun is available for listeners.  It is almost a 30-minute collection of soundscapes & indecipherable lyrics… well hang on, I’ve just been informed that you CAN hear the word ‘squirrel’ on the second track.  Here is a link to the cacophony.

This is Marisa.  She spins the coolest tunes and has the warmest voice on the radio in my opinion.  Marisa is the host of The Mixtape on KKFI.  The station had a pledge drive last fall, and I made a donation.  Some people make donations to get their names read on the air or to get a tote bag, t-shirt, or a coffee mug.  I made a donation that was large enough to pay for a guest DJ spot on any show of my choosing – I chose The Mixtape.  The January 9 show that I was on will be on KKFI’s archive for a few more days – you can also hear it on audioflaregun.com.  

Eddie Delahunt is a dear old friend that I haven’t seen in years — and STILL he gave me a ‘shout out’ when he was on KKFI last August.  Just hearing him say “I’d like to dedicate this to Dave Cedillo” made me smile.

I’ve always had a warm spot for this cool song by The Fleet Foxes.

Land of the Lost was a cheesy Saturday morning show, but I loved it.  When Marshall, Will, or Holly wandered into a cave and the synthesizers dropped an octave, and the Sleestaks started hissing — I knew trouble was brewing.  I have no idea how those walking lizards co-existed with carnivorous dinosaurs.

When I get to work most weekdays, I am NOT full of energy.  I usually feel like this version of Dr. Johnny Fever before he starts his shift on WKRP.  However, if I send a message to my friends that ends in exclamation points, attach the following image, and say something like “aaaaaaaaaaand we’re back!!!!”…there’s a chance that I will channel that energy and fool myself into thinking that I did get enough sleep, my neck isn’t stiff, I will break out into song, and maybe there is a dance party happening just around the corner!  Oh, and I just realized this is blog post #1600.  Hello November!
