last friday we (jenny, angie, and me) loaded up the kia soul and drove to fort scott for beep goes the weasel. it was part of a relay for life event at common ground coffee. dav mohler asked if we could beep on vegetables during karaoke lulls. one of the weirder things we did was asking patrons to yell up yours! every time we sang the words take it easy, the old eagles tune. it was an obscure reference to starman. that’s tom geeding playing produce rhythm in the pic above.

four days ago i got a call from laura laiben. she’s the main dish at the culinary center of kansas city, and yes that IS her job title! laura heard about beep goes the weasel on KCUR, and offered to supply fruits and vegetables for the project. i went over there an hour ago and picked up a bag of food, and business cards. it’s gonna feel really cool to say that our fruits and vegetables have been provided by the culinary center of kansas city. beep goes the weasel is playing at a relay for life benefit in ft. scott tonight @ 7pm.

this coming friday beep goes the weasel will be part of a relay for life event in ft. scott, ks. angie, matt, and i will play songs for folks as they beep on carrots and bananas. when we’re not beeping other people will be singing 80′s karaoke.

most sunday mornings look like this: me going over songs for the church service after printing lyric and chord sheets. my voice always has an early morning croak, our new cat wants more attention than i can give, and sometimes there is a new song that i will learn and play in the span of two hours. today’s song for the message is livin’ on a prayer.

every month the crossroads art district celebrates first fridays. old overland park has the same kind of fun on third fridays. mondo beep is usually on the corner of 18th street and baltimore during warmer months, but in february we’ll beep indoors at IUAH! the last time we played there it was cold and rainy, and ironically we were outside.

a french lawyer born in the 18th century once said “tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are,” and then somebody else re-quoted him and said, “you are what you eat.” according to that logic i am a fried potato, turkey kielbasa, sauerkraut, egg man.

i bought this latex horse head in des moines last week. it was partly inspired by a movie i watched recently on netflix. i’m pretty sure i’ll get reactions from every pedestrian that sees me wearing this while playing carrots on first fridays.

hey guess what? we just received confirmation this afternoon that beep goes the weasel is coming back to the boulevard drive in for another summer of making music and noise with vegetables! when 2015 warms up we’ll play more dates, plug in some new gear, see what an eggplant sounds like, and basically have a great time!

we have a new cat. his name is max. he doesn’t come when we call, he shows no recognition when we say his name, but he WILL snuggle sometimes.

wednesday i played pinball with glenn winkler. his parents have an indiana jones pinball machine in their basement. they keep a record of everyone’s high score on a white board. right now glenn has the all time high score: 70 million, but his dad is vowing to beat it. i managed to get 24 million before i tilted it.
