I’m still equal, and this equality is giving me a strength and clarity I’ve never had before. When I am mindful of myself and my relationship to my Higher Power, I have healthy interactions with everybody else no matter what behaviors and actions they display. I carry a jigsaw puzzle piece to remind myself that I am equal to everyone around me. It’s one more tool I can use on my recovery journey. Breathe in, breathe out.

The eagles have landed!  The last few days I’ve been watching an eagle family on YouTube.  Sometimes one parent is there, sometimes both of them are there, but the eaglets are always there.  The Friends of Big Bear Valley made this viewing possible.  When I watch nature play out like this, it’s a reminder of how much I don’t control in the world, and how beautiful it is.  The Friends of Big Bear Valley recently named the eaglets Sunny & Gizmo, and they are growing with every fish & fowl meal their parents bring up to the nest.  Click here to watch with me.

Now THIS is guerilla art.  We didn’t know it was there until we were just a few feet away from it.  There was no warning.  The tree bearing bicycle fruit was waiting in silence like the tree that helped Sir Isaac discover gravity.

I was texting my buddy, E-Rock, Saturday morning.  We were sharing our experience, strength, and hope with each other.  I sent him a Lucinda Williams song, he sent me these cool pics, and now you know how he got his name!

There is a saying that I keep near my desk at work: “ANGER is non-acceptance of things which are beyond our control.  If we accept, it becomes TOLERANCE.”  I will pay attention to my anger when it comes, I will let it inform me of what is going on inside of me, and then I’ll express myself appropriately.  With enough practice I will be one of the taller ants.

My sister, Darla, had a plastic Snoopy and Woodstock lunchbox when we were growing up.  I remember it as vividly as my own (a metal Roadrunner and Wiley Coyote lunchbox).  I also remember wondering why she had a plastic one and if hers was better than mine. It was a typical little kid thought, and I was always comparing myself and my stuff to other people and their stuff.  I’m trying not to do that as much these days. Happy birthday Darla. You be you, and I’ll be me.  I love you.

For the record, I would never send poison to my critics.

It’s green and it feels like an oasis, a dreamscape, a place where my imagination can drift off without hitting anything harmful.  Monstera’s Books is a 10-minute walk from our house.  If I get hungry, I can walk next door and get 2 for 1 tacos at Torreador, which has been around since 1985.

Today is World Down Syndrome Day.  This observance seeks to raise awareness, promote inclusion and advocate for individuals with Down syndrome.  The young dark-haired woman in the video above is Rachel Mast.  She transports patients at the health system where I work.

Danny Cox passed away earlier this month on March 7.  He had a magnetic presence, and I was honored to have met him.  I saw him perform as the Ghost of Christmas Present in ‘A Christmas Carol’ and I remember the nights I saw him play w/Terry Bohner at a local Mexican cantina.  I remember asking him how many more dates he was playing there, and he said, “we’ll be here until the snow flies.”  I’m glad I can still listen to interviews he gave on KCUR and find videos on YouTube, like this one from Folk Alliance International.  I will miss him.
