I Wish I Was In This Choir

ccc-contactThey take me back, and they move me forward. I’m being rocked. Jenny and I watched more videos from Choir!Choir!Choir! yesterday. As I watched each one I remembered what it was like to sing in school choirs and church choirs, how I learned my tenor part or my bass part, and how three or four part harmonies created pleasant vibrations in my head. In the Choir!Choir!Choir! videos, choir members made eye contact with each other as they were singing. I didn’t know what they were thinking, but I could tell that it was a shared experience. We could all use a good shared experience right now. I’m looking forward to the time when our social distance is less than 6 feet and we can stand next to someone without a mask and learn a song together. When I see all these people, I see a unity of purpose. I see people of different origins coming together for a common goal. I see people celebrating what it means to be a community alive. Thank you Daveed and Nobu.

  1. My voice isn’t what it used to be, not that it was ever that good. One thing for sure, though. I sure hope I’m part of that last one ( choir, that is). That’s the one I don’t want to miss.

  2. Can’t wait for those days when we can all be together in harmony. Like big Dave, I can’t sing like I use to but oh how I miss the harmony and I can make a joyful noise in a big crowd. :)

  3. Dave I’m going to really need that kind of singing to make me whole after this COVID is behind us. My soul is so hungry for it. But it’s been such a blessing to sing with you and the guys and Becky at church.

  4. You got my heart aching for the past now Dave, I miss the days where people could be together and make a memory together in such a simple (or so we thought at the time) way.

  5. While my wife sings like an Angel, and misses her Augsburg choir days, I cannot carry a tune in a bucket. I still sing along to tunes in my car, though…the latest song was me and my youngest daughter belting out Hotel California a few nights ago! I also like the following songs: God Bless the Broken Road, Car Wash, Love Shack, and my favorite: Friends In Low Places!!!
What I recall the most from before the virus took gatherings away was my daughters and I singing Friends In Low Places at Royals games between innings! A fine song sung by all!!! You Rock, Dave!!!

  6. Missing singing in the choir and with the Enduros. It was great being part of the recorded voices for our Ash Wednesday service.
